Boyle signs up to Logan fan club

-

IT wasn’t just the Dundee United players who were given the heebiejeebies by Hibernian’s Conrad Logan.

The Irish goalkeeper, who marked his first game in 16 months with a rousing display which helped the Edinburgh club reach the William Hill Scottish Cup final, is clearly not one to be messed with. A quick glance at his sturdy figure makes that fairly obvious.

“We were scared,” joked Martin Boyle, as he reflected on the moment big Conrad marched into the Hibernian dressing room. It seems he’s a gentle giant, though. “I always try to wind him up but he puts me in a big bear hug,” added Boyle. “He’s mental. It’s not like I can escape. I’ve had a few tortures from him.”

Logan’s inspired performance at the national stadium certainly tortured United and his two saves in the penalty shoot-out proved to be decisive.

On a pitch full of fairly honed and sculpted figures, Logan stood out like the Colossus of Rhodes. He was pretty immense between the sticks and pulled off a series of vital blocks in open play before his heroics in the man-to-man showdowns from the spot. The Conrad Logan Appreciation Society has swiftly gathered a vast army of members and Boyle has already paid his subs. “He knows himself that he’s not in the best condition, but fair play to him, he’s not played for months because of the injury,” said Boyle.

“It says a lot about him that he came back into a game like that and was brilliant. He basically won us the game. He has worked hard.”
