Sensational Chun soars to second major with record 21-under score
CHUN IN-GEE won her second career major after a record-breaking victory at the Evian Championship in France.
The 22-year-old South Korean maintained the four-shot lead she held overnight as she set the lowest 72-hole score at a major with 21 under par to claim victory.
A final-round 69 was enough for Chun to break the record for men and women of 20 under, held jointly by Henrik Stenson and Jason Day.
She won ahead of compatriots Ryu So-yeon and Park Sung-hyun, who finished tied second.
After six birdies and an eagle in round three, it was always going to be tough task for Chun to replicate that form on the final day at the last major of the year. But Chun, who won the 2015 US Open, only needed three birdies to ensure victory and set a new record.
Defending champion Lydia Ko finished tied 43rd, while England’s Jodi Ewart Shadoff carded four birdies but also four bogeys that saw her card a final-round 71 to end the tournament tied 12th on five under.
