Thomson living the dream after Seeyouatmidnight comeback run

- PAUL WHEELER

SANDY THOMSON declared himself satisfied with Seeyouatmidnight’s comeback run over hurdles at Kelso on Saturday as he considers the horse’s next race.

Seeyouatmidnight finished second to Lucinda Russell’s Big River in the Edinburgh Gin Handicap Hurdle, his first start since he was pulled up in the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November.

“He’s grand. I was absolutely delighted,” Thomson said. “You are always worried about progressive novices and we were giving the winner 24lb.

“It was as good a run as I’d hoped for. There’s the Irish National and the Scottish National.

“I imagine we’d be more likely to go to the Scottish National but we’ll just wait until the weights come out and see.

“Ground may be a consideration. He has handled the softer ground and, if it dries, Ayr could come up quite quick.”

Arrogate completed the full set of the three most valuable races in the world when he won the Dubai World Cup in Meydan, having previously won both the Breeders’ Cup Classic and the Pegasus World Cup.

That race, run for the first time this year, is currently the most valuable of the three but Sheikh Mohammed, the driving force of racing in Dubai, is ready to up the ante to put the Dubai race back at the sport’s pinnacle.

“I always want one step ahead,” he said, adding “we want to be number one and I’m leaning hard on my people to be No.1.

“We have a vision and we dream for that.”
