Lightweight champ Taylor chilled at the top

-

JOSH TAYLOR insists he has never been so relaxed after admitting he no longer feels he has to prove himself after becoming world champion.

The Edinburgh-born fighter realised his dream when he got his hands on the super lightweight IBF belt with a points victory over Ivan Baranchyk in Glasgow in May. And the unbeaten boxer will now look to add Regis Prograis’ WBA title when he enters the ring with the American in the final of the World Boxing Super Series at the O2 in London on October 26.

Taylor said: “I’m more confident in myself and I know what I can do, whereas before I thought I had to prove what I could do because I had only had so many fights.

“I had to prove I was world level going up against Victor Postol [in June 2018]. But I now know, everyone else knows, I’m world level; a world-class fighter and I’m a world champion now, so I can relax.

“I don’t have to prove myself to anyone, I can focus on myself.” Rugby union World Cup,
