- CHRIS JACK

RANGERS defender Ross McCrorie has become the first Scottish football player to be diagnosed with coronavirus as Portsmouth confirmed their fifth case of the deadly disease.

The 22-year-old has now begun a period of self-isolation and is under the care of the Rangers medical team as the Ibrox club also check on twin brother Robby.

The keeper, who is currently on the books of Livingston after leaving Ibrox on loan during the January transfer window, shares accommodation with his sibling.

Portsmouth have reported a handful of positive Covid-19 tests in recent days as football across Britain continues to come to terms with the virus that has seen the country locked down.

McCrorie made 22 appearances for the League One outfit before the suspension of all divisions and has now become the latest Fratton Park star to be struck down with the disease.

Rangers say

McCrorie has not any symptoms

Ross displayed despite testing positive for coronavirus. Portsmouth, where the Scotland Under-21 internationalist have been playing on loan, earlier confirmed he had become the fifth of their players to test positive for the virus.

A club statement given to the PA news agency read: “On behalf of Rangers Football Club, we pass on our best wishes to our first-team player, Ross McCrorie.

“Although Ross is currently on loan to Portsmouth FC, we have been in regular contact with him since Portsmouth announced some of their other players had tested positive for coronavirus. “Our medical lead, Doctor Mark Waller, and our sporting director, Ross Wilson, have this evening been in contact with Ross.

“Ross has not displayed any symptoms but is taking sensible precautions and self-isolating, in line with government guidelines and the advice of our medical team.

“We urge everyone to continue following government advice to help limit the spread of this virus. “Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.”
