Manager offers Rangers incentive

GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst will give his Rangers stars of the future a chance to catch the eye in the remaining Premiership fixtures.

The Ibrox boss handed defender Leon King a start for the victory over Dundee United as Rangers returned to league action following their win against RB Leipzig.

James Tavernier and Amad Diallo were on target and meetings with Ross County and Hearts now lie ahead before the Europa League final in Seville.

Alex Lowry and Charlie McCann made positive impressions off the bench and Adam Devine got his debut for the champions as he replaced captain Tavernier.

Van Bronckhorst is keen to give his Academy kids an opportunity to shine and there will be more game time coming as Rangers count down to their date with destiny against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Van Bronckhorst said: “We have a big squad and we have also a lot of academy players who are knocking on the door to play.

“I think Alex is the one to get the most chances together with Leon. I think Charlie McCann is developing really well. Adam Devine, who came in, is also one we give all the chances to develop himself to be a future player of Rangers.

“In the end I am really pleased with it. It was a good day today. Of course, I’m preparing my team for the last two finals of the season. But I think today you saw a glimpse of the future of this club.

“With Leon King, with Alex Lowry, McCann, Devine – those are players who in a couple of years will substitute all the players we have now. It’s a natural process, I think.

“We gave them the chance today because we trust them. They are learning all the time and developing as well as we want. Also, they have to keep pushing and keep working hard to become a better player every day.”
