Cantwell says every game is a cup final now

- Chris Jack

TODD CANTWELL admits Rangers have six cup finals to achieve their treble dreams as he looks to play his part in a historic campaign for boss Philippe Clement.

The Belgian saw his side secure a place in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup final on Sunday as Cyriel Dessers netted twice to overcome Hearts and set up a meeting with Celtic next month.

Clement guided his side to the Viaplay Cup with victory over Aberdeen in December and Rangers begin their post-split schedule with a trip to face St Mirren on Sunday. Any slip-ups now will prove fatal for Rangers’ silverware dreams and Cantwell is determined to use their weekend win as the blueprint for further successes in the coming weeks.

“Yeah, it was a must-win game against Hearts,” said Cantwell, who combined with Dessers for both of his goals against Hearts. “We came out and we won it. That’s what was in the plan. The mission was a success.

“I won’t be getting carried away [with my contribution]. I’m in the team to create and that’s what I did against Hearts. Me and Cyriel have a good understanding. From one of his first training sessions, I think we realised we would be on the same page. Hopefully we can get a bit of a run together now until the end of the season and get some goals and assists.

“An early goal always helps any team in world football. We got that against Hearts and I think it steadied us. Every game needs to be seen as a final now. We’ve got to win every game. We’ve definitely got the capabilities to do so. I’ll give my absolute best until the end of the season.”
