FISHMORE HALL, SHROPSHIRE
STYLE AND SUBSTANCE
If vast spas aren’t your style but you fancy a spot of relaxation, Fishmore Hall could be what you’re looking for. Opened in November last year, it’s nestled next door to the main house, a grand restored Georgian building, and promises a place to rest and rejuvenate while looking over the rolling fields of Shropshire.
SLEEPING MATTERS
There are only 15 rooms, each of them individually designed. Ours is dominated by a dark red wall behind a bed of epic proportions. There are pops of colour in the claret cushions and bed spread, a bathroom with a tub and walk-in shower, and extras such as a box of Elemis treats left for us after returning from dinner.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Before dinner, we enjoy a Martini next to the fire in the cosy lounge. It’s only a few steps to reach Forells, a 3AA Rosette restaurant. The food is incredible and the man to thank is head chef Andrew Birch, a participant in last year’s Great British Menu. We opt for the six-course tasting menu, which begins with hand-dived scallop and salmon, followed by leek and potato soup, John Dory, sirloin of Welsh Wagyu beef and a cheese board.
SPA HEAVEN
I hop on to the massage table in one of four treatment rooms, where the lovely Rosie gets to work massaging out an array of nodules. Afterwards, my boyfriend and I sample the sauna and steam rooms. We then scuttle out to the hot tub. Enjoying the nip of cold air on our faces, we sip a glass of fizz and look out to the snow-capped hills.
ABOUT THE AREA
You might feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but it’s only a short walk to the town of Ludlow. It’s a haven for foodies, so take time to enjoy the produce on offer. If, on the other hand, you’re keen to burn a few calories, there are plenty of country trails. Doubles from £175 with breakfast. Visit fishmorehall.co.uk
