PICK OF THE WEEK

Eurovision Song Contest 2018 (BBC1, 8pm) Boom bang a bang – it’s time to congratulate those who have made it into the final (even if some nations bought their way in – mentioning no names...) and make our minds up which of the songs we like best before casting our votes. No doubt there will be a few nul points out there because, let’s face it, the overall standard can be a little questionable, but there will also be a few genuine gems. And then there are the novelty acts who tend to do a wee bit better than perhaps they should, opting for entertainment value over musical prowess. SuRie performs the UK’s entry, Storm, but as in previous years she isn’t expected to trouble the top of the chart. Instead, Israel, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic are among the favourites.

Britain’s Most Historic Towns (C4, 8pm) Professor Alice Roberts reveals the history of Belfast, the UK’s most Victorian city. She visits the shipyards that built the Titanic, gets locked up in the notorious Crumlin Road jail and takes a crash course in 19th-century female etiquette. The final episode of this take on British history, in which the academic, writer and broadcaster studies one key period in history by delving into the secrets of a historic town that encapsulates the era, provides an impression of what life was like at key moments in the turbulent past. Last in the series.

Live Boxing (Channel 5, 9pm)

Sam Sexton defends his British heavyweight crown against Hughie Fury at the Macron Stadium in Bolton. Norwich-born Sexton has only lost three times in 27 fights and his unbeaten record stretches back to 2012. He won this title by outpointing Gary Cornish for the vacant belt last October. Stockport fighter Fury, meanwhile, is the cousin of Tyson Fury and has built up a formidable reputation of his own, with only one loss from 21 bouts. That defeat came last September, when he lost a majority points decision to then WBO champion Joseph Parker.
