Six couples preparing for the biggest day of their lives try to win their families’ blessing. The first episode features 24-year-old politics student Dee from Hull, whose grandad Paul has never been able to comprehend her relationsh­ip with 59-year-old local councillor John. Elsewhere, Cambridges­hire builder Rob wants to know why his parents seem to have taken no interest in his wedding to Simon. Plus, Shaaba and Jamie from Colchester are recently engaged, but for Shaaba’s mother Fai, her daughter’s choice of partner is far from ideal.

Hello Stranger (C4, 10pm)

Dating show with a twist, as a couple who are looking to recapture the excitement of falling in love meet hypnotist Aaron Calvert, who makes them temporaril­y forget each other. Lucy and George go out on dates with two other people who match what they are looking for in an ideal partner. They also meet each other, as if for the first time, to find out whether they might fall in love all over again. Will sparks fly once more, or will Lucy and George find more chemistry with one of their new dates?

WEDNESDAY Great Rail Restoratio­ns with Peter Snow (C4, 8pm)

New series. Peter Snow and Henry Cole visit projects across the country where teams of restoratio­n experts are attempting to restore historic railway carriages to their former glory. The first stop is the stunning Vale of Llangollen in North Wales, to visit a 1912 carriage designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, the creator of the Flying Scotsman, where Henry explores how the emergency cord was invented and learns how rail travellers coped before toilets were introduced on trains.

Shop Smart: Save Money (C5, 8pm)

Fiona Phillips teams up with Gaby Roslin for what on the surface looks like Channel 5’s version of The Martin Lewis Money Show. In the first episode, Smart Shoppers go head-to-head on a supermarke­t dash to help out a family whose food bill is getting out of control. On one side we have Obargainis­ta’ Kelly from Cardiff, and challengin­g her at the checkout are OBOGOF Twins’ Jo and Leisa. Armed with a list of the family’s culinary likes and dislikes, the challenger­s scour the aisles for bargains and sharing tips. Who will bring home the bacon? Meanwhile, ‘Deal Detective’ Andy takes up the 1K Challenge, helping a young couple save up to buy a bigger house and roving reporter Alexis Conran lifts the lid on the country’s chips. Finally, as World Cup fever grips the nation, the team goes football crazy, finding the very latest deals and offers.

Grenfell: The First 24 Hours (STV, 9pm)

In the early hours of June 14, 2017, a blaze broke out at Grenfell Tower in west London, claiming 72

lives and injuring many others. ITV is marking the approach of the appalling tragedy’s first anniversar­y with this moving documentar­y in which survivors recall the events of that terrible night, one that rocked not only the local community, but the entire country. The programme charts exactly what happened, from the first report of the fire to the London Fire Brigade getting it under control 24 hours later.

Award-winning writer and acclaimed author of the semi-autobiogra­phical novel Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit Jeanette Winterson delivers this year’s annual lecture, coming for the first time from the Robing Room in the House of Lords at the Palace of
