hope will enable her to conquer a crippling condition that often leaves her distraught and has had a detrimental impact on her social life and relationships.
Alex Strangelove (Netflix, from Fri)
Daniel Doheny heads the cast of this charming romantic comedy, which has been co-produced by Ben Stiller. Alex is a nerdy, straight-A high school student, but is hugely popular with his peers, having been elected his class president. He also manages to win the heart of Claire, a beautiful new student; he hopes she can help him achieve his final teenage goal - to lose his virginity. They set up a date in a motel room, but Alex is in turmoil - he’s met Elliot, an older boy from across town who has really turned his head. The film tackles what could have been a tricky subject with humour, offering insights into teenage emotions rarely depicted with such depth on screen.
Cloak & Dagger (Amazon Prime Video, from Fri)
The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, this is based on characters who first featured in comic books; they originally popped up in the March 1982 issue of Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man. They went on to form ties with other groups, including the X-Men, and have spun-off into their own publication. Here they’re played by Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph. Holt takes the role of Tandy Bowen, a teenager who can emit light daggers, while Joseph is Tyrone Johnson, who can engulf others in darkness and transport them to a different dimension.
