In 1983 a young photographer called Denis O’Regan was given the chance of a lifetime. He was invited to spend the year in the company of one of music’s superstars then at the height of his commercial popularity.

By 1983 David Bowie was touring his hugely successful Let’s Dance album. The Serious Moonlight tour saw him play to huge audiences around the world and at the side of the stage – and in restaurants and airports and in rehearsal spaces and at parties too – O’Regan was taking photographs.
