Out of Their Skin (ITV4, 10pm)

Kamara takes to the racetrack to test electric ride-on toys with a group of young drivers. Plus Phillip tests Segway’s hi-tech rollerskat­es that power themselves, and Sally Phillips and her children find out what computer consoles are worth getting without breaking the bank.

To mark 40 years since Viv Anderson became the first black footballer to win a full cap for England, Ian Wright hosts this two-part documentar­y looking at the rise of black players in Britain and the challenges they still face. Contributo­rs include Chelsea’s first black player, Paul Canoville, who recalls how he was abused by his own fans, as well as John Barnes and Paul Ince, who talk about how race can be a factor for aspiring managers.

Inside Russia’s Toughest Prisons (C5, 10pm)

Documentar­y offering a never-before-seen look inside three high security Russian prisons. Cameras go inside Europe’s oldest operating jail, Vladimir Central, Russia’s largest prison with more than 1,200 inmates, and one of its convicts opens up about killing his brother-in-law for disturbing his daughter’s sleep. Cameras also explore the Black Dolphin prison, near the Kazakhstan border, which is home to some of the highest category offenders in the world, and a frozen Siberian prison camp, where two inmates go their separate ways as one gets parole while the other does not.

WEDNESDAY Death and Nightingal­es (BBC2, 9pm)

We’re used to period dramas with an epic feel, telling sweeping tales encompassi­ng years of their characters’ lives. Death and Nightingal­es is, however, somewhat different. It’s set in the past – 1885 to be exact – but its events take place all in one 24-hour period in the life of Beth Winters, a young Irishwoman from Fermanagh. Her life has always been dominated by her Protestant stepfather Billy, who seeks to control every aspect of her life. So, on her 23rd birthday, and with her mother long dead, Beth decides to assert herself by running away with the charming but mysterious Liam Ward. But as the hour of their departure nears, can she go through with her plan? Ann Skelly, Matthew Rhys and Jamie Dornan play the trio.

The Apprentice (BBC1, 9pm)

The candidates are challenged to sell live to the nation on a TV shopping channel, as well as directing their own promotiona­l video to boost sales. The teams must decide which products will be best to sell, and the one that generates the most sales will win. One product selection team opts for a high-risk strategy in a bid to make substantia­l sales, while on the other side a lack of confidence in their on-screen presenting pair causes the problems.

Superkids: Breaking Away From Care (C4, 10pm)

Writer and performer Lemn Sissay’s early life was far from happy. He entered the care system at birth, was abandoned by the foster family who raised him for 12 years then spent time in four children’s homes before leaving the system and being forced to make his own way in the world. He has come to terms with the trauma by telling his story around the world –
