Turner in January, Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh, from Tuesday to January 31

Another annual tradition. Henry Vaughan’s bequest of Turner watercolours comes out of safe keeping on Tuesday to give a subtle splash of colour to January’s darkest days. An annual reminder, too, that while Turner is best known for the Wagnerian sturm und drang of his grand oil paintings, he could also play the most delicate of airs when needed.
