Two Doors Down (BBC2, 10pm)

have been central to the history of four different parts of the world. He begins on a journey across the Alps, starting in Vienna, before navigating one of the worst avalanche zones in the world. He then heads to St Moritz on a railway that was made possible in part by British holiday pioneer Thomas Cook, before boarding two steep cog railways to climb up the north face of the Eiger to reach the “Roof of Europe”.

The sitcom returns, and a couple of newcomers are joining the neighbourh­ood, in the form of Alan (played by profession­al wrestler Grado, aka Graeme Stevely) and Michelle (Joy McAvoy). In the first episode Beth and Eric think they are going to escape the street as their son Ian is taking them out for a 30th anniversar­y dinner. It turns out that’s just a ruse as he and his boyfriend Gordon have planned a surprise party in Beth and Eric’s own house – and all the gang is there. Before long, the champagne is flowing, but Ian could be left wishing he’d booked a restaurant after all when a drunken Cathy thinks this is the perfect time for him to pop the question. If that wasn’t enough to take the spotlight off the happy couple, Cathy decides to treat everyone to a replay of her first wedding dance with Colin.

Raw Recruits: Squaddies at 16 (C5, 10pm)

Following another group of teenagers as they go through Army training in Harrogate. In the first episode, rookies Vyse and Johnson grapple with the reality of missing their parents, and Corporal Early discovers an illicit cigarette end during the boys’ first room inspection. Meanwhile the boys get a short back and sides from the Army hairdresse­r – and for the first time ever a female junior soldier opts to join them. The recruits must also face a tough physical examinatio­n or risk being thrown out.

TUESDAY Silent Witness (BBC1, 9pm)

Emilia Fox returns for her 14th series as Dr Nikki Alexander, and the impetuous forensics expert is straight into the thick of the action tonight after her trip to the States. The Lyell unit is called in to investigat­e an attack against a trans man, and when two further crimes are reported, one leaving a potential witness, it becomes clear the team is dealing with an outbreak of violence targeting trans people. With the Lyell under increasing financial scrutiny and frustratio­n growing between the team and the acting DCI, can they pull together to find the killer before they strike again? The two-parter continues tomorrow when a slip-up from Cramer results in the premature release of a suspect. Thomas offers to bear the brunt of the pressure while the team focuses on the search for the perpetrato­r, but will he end up leaving them?

Icons (BBC2, 9pm)

From the individual­s who came to define our idea of what a great leader is or were instrument­al in the struggle for equality and civil rights, to those whose inventions transforme­d the way we live or whose work came to enrich and influence the lives of billions, this eight-part series tells the story of a century of seismic change through the lives of the figures who made it. At the end of each programme, the public can vote for the greatest individual in a given category who, with the finalists from the other sections, will then be put through to the live final where the overall winning “icon” is crowned after a

Sally4Ever (Now TV/Sky on Demand, from Sun)

When it comes to depicting comedic humiliatio­n, few people do it better than Julia Davis. She was, after all, the brains behind Nighty Night, collaborat­ed with Rob Brydon on Human Remains and her other works include Brass Eye and I’m Alan Partridge. Davis also wrote, directed and stars in all seven episodes of Sally4Ever, which is being made available as a boxset, but it’s Catherine Shepherd who takes the lead role as the titular Sally, who is stuck in a dull job as a marketer with a dull boyfriend called David. They’ve been together for 10 years but on the night he finally proposes, something snaps and she embarks on a wild affair with Emma (Davis), a seductive actress, singer, musician, poet and author who completely takes over Sally’s life.

Bats, Balls and Bradford Girls (BBC3, from Tuesday, 10am)

Four years ago, a group of teens from the Yorkshire city joined forces to create the first British all-Asian girls’ cricket team. Here, cameras follow them during the 2018 summer holidays as they train for their last tournament together – they have all just left school and are about to go their separate ways, to college or into full-time work. Before becoming part of the squad, none of them had ever played cricket before and had to overcome numerous problems along the way, including a backlash from the Pakistani community, but their determinat­ion to succeed has won through.
