Ben Fogle: New Lives in the Wild (C5, 9pm)

The adventurer meets more people who have turned their backs on the rat race and set up home in some of the most remote places on Earth. This week Ben travels to the vast forests of the Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria to join Miriam and Peter, a couple who have chosen life as nomads, hiking through some of the world’s most striking wilderness­es. They are educated but unemployed and homeless and it’s just the way they like it. Having walked the length of New Zealand in 2016, Ben finds the duo on an intrepid journey across south-east Europe.

Catastroph­e (C4, 10pm)

The third series of Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney’s acclaimed sitcom came to a dramatic end when Rob’s relapse into alcoholism led to a car crash and a forced confession. And it looks like their lives won’t be any less complicate­d in this fourth run, as a new acquaintan­ce gets friendly with Rob, and Sharon takes up a hobby that could leave her on the wrong side of the law. At least they’ll be surrounded by famous friends, as this season features some impressive guest stars, including former Coronation Street actress Julie Hesmondhal­gh, Brian “son of Brendan” Gleeson and Sex and the City’s Chris Noth, who is clearly a fan of British TV following his recent appearance on Doctor Who.

WEDNESDAY Bradley Walsh and Son: Breaking Dad (STV, 8pm)

Actor Bradley Walsh and his 20-year-old son Barney hit the road together, travelling more than 2,000 miles from Los Angeles to New Orleans. In the second leg of their journey, the pair leave LA and make their way down the famous Route 66 to Arizona. Here, they ride through a ghost town before reaching Lake Havasu City, where Barney has arranged for them to try jet-skiing. Finally they attend a cowboy college.

The Twinstitut­e (BBC2, 8.30pm)

Doctors Chris and Xand van Tulleken put health theories to the test with the help of identical twins. This time, the pairs examine the best ways to beat fatigue, with Tina and Hugo finding out if there is a way to combat exhaustion by trailing two popular sleep regimes, but it’s going to require them to stay awake for nearly 36 hours. Elsewhere the participan­ts take part in experiment­s where they learn real skills in a virtual world and look into a new theory about smartphone­s and the effect that their use can have on our IQ.

Cleaning Up (STV, 9pm)

After picking up plaudits for the one-off drama Care in December, Sheridan Smith starts the year with this six-part series from screenwrit­ing newcomer Mark Marlow. She stars as Sam, a struggling single mother who tries to escape from the realities of her life through gambling, which is only adding to her financial problems. When her estranged husband threatens to take custody of their two daughters, Sam tries to get her life back on track, but that’s not easy when she’s a cleaner at Canary Wharf for
