SCOTLAND’S very best emerging artistic talents are currently preparing to showcase their work in a wonderful summer display of creativity. Hundreds of students will welcome the public to their end-of-year degree shows, which offer graduating students the opportunity to display and sell their work in a relaxed, informal environment. It is also an opportunity for art-lovers to snap up the early work of our stars of tomorrow...
THE Moray School of Art’s (MSoA), is one of the five major Scottish art schools. This year’s degree show in Elgin, at the small and picturesque campus at
Moray College, will feature 12 talented
fourth-year students who will showcase their work from Friday, June 14 to 21 (public access from June 17) a.
The MSoA show will mirror the wide range of artistic endeavours undertaken by students across the Fine Art and Fine Art Textiles degree courses at the
school which is part of University of the Highlands and Islands. Students have shown their excellence across the spectrum of fine art, such as painting, digital imaging, photography, drawing,
sculpture and printmaking. Students are encouraged to work in a interdisciplinary way and to include more than one medium within that practice. There are MSoA graduates in many areas of the arts – many have undertaken residencies, while others have started businesses or postgraduate study.
The school of art has relationships with exhibiting societies and the four main Scottish Art Schools. It can also offer trips to inspiring cities such as New York, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Barcelona and London.

UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE
DUNDEE’S renaissance as Scotland’s design city has been well documented, but long before the V&A was part of Dundee’s Waterfront, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and Architecture produced many of the country’s most influential artists and designers.
In fact it was a crucial part of the wider picture that led to Dundee becoming the only UK UNESCO City of Design. In 2018, the Degree Show attracted 16,000 visitors, the highest attendance on record. This year the show, running from May 18 to 26, is at the heart of the city’s biggest celebration of art and design to date, running at the same time as Dundee Design Festival.
Around 300 students will once again be showcasing visually stunning art and design that seeks to solve some of society’s biggest problems. For a total of 10 days the university’s Matthew and Crawford buildings will be transformed into one of the country’s biggest exhibition spaces, showcasing challenging work in animation, architecture, art & philosophy, digital interaction design, fine art, graphic design, illustration, interior & environmental design, jewellery & metal design, product design, and textile design.
The Degree Show is one part of the cultural offering for visitors to the city, who can also take in Videogames: Design/ Play/Disrupt at V&A Dundee; the Dundee Design Festival, hosting a programme of design-focused events and workshops inside the Keiller Shopping Centre between May 21 and 28; David Austen’s Underworld at Dundee Contemporary Arts; and two exhibitions at The McManus – Wise Ways: Travels of A Dundee Doctor and As We See It: Twentieth Century Scottish Art.
Professor Andrew Atherton, Principal and Vice-Chancellor said: “Our Degree Show taking place at the same time as a major V&A touring exhibition is a major milestone in terms of what the city can offer its residents and visitors.”
Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and Architecture Degree Show is open to the public from Saturday, May 18, to Sunday, May 26, 10am to 8pm (weekends 10am to 4pm).
