Grace of Monaco: Hollywood Princess (C5, 9pm)

Grace Kelly’s life was the stuff of fairy tales. Blessed with brains and beauty, she started acting as a teenager, and starred in assorted classic films, including Rear Window, High Noon, To Catch A Thief, High Society, and won an Academy Award for The Country Girl. However, at the height of her fame she retired aged 26 and married Prince Rainier of

Monaco. Princess Grace of Monaco as she became known turned her back on acting, but remained a fashion and style icon for the next 20 years as part of one of the world’s most famous royal families. Alas, Princess Grace died aged 52 after a car crash in Monaco. This documentary looks back at her Tinseltown career and life as a Princess to explore a global icon.

The Last Wave (BBC4, 9pm & 9.50pm)

The French drama continues, and Brizan is on a state of high alert after the cloud caused a tidal wave that destroyed the lighthouse, and the water split the small town in half. Lena sees strange coincidences with her own dreams, and while the locals start to panic, Faust Ketchak says he sees the phenomenon as a revolt of nature and a punishment against humanity’s destructive behaviour. Then, in the second of tonight’s episodes, Lena is still shocked by some unexpected news, and Ben makes a disturbing discovery about the mayor and the authorities.

Live Snooker: The World Championship (BBC2, 10am & 4.10pm; BBC4, 7pm)

The second day’s play at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield sees former champion Stuart Bingham conclude his opening-round match against a qualifier. David Gilbert, who reached the semi-finals for the first time in his career in 2019, also begins his campaign, as does fourtime World Champion John Higgins. Plus, China’s Ding Junhui, Englishman Kyren Wilson and Welsh Potting Machine Mark Williams, who was the defending champion here last year, but lost in the second round to Gilbert, will all be looking to book their places in the last 16.

MOTD Live: FA Cup Final (BBC1, 5pm)

Arsenal v Chelsea (Kick-off 5.30pm). Gary Lineker presents coverage of the showpiece match from Wembley Stadium. The Gunners recorded a 2-0 victory over holders Manchester City in the semi-finals thanks to a brace by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Chelsea produced an impressive performance in a 3-1 victory over Manchester United the following day. The sides also met in the 2017 final, when Arsenal prevailed 2-1, though more recently, Chelsea won 4-1 against their London rivals in the 2019 Europa League final. With analysis from Alan Shearer and Ian Wright.

Casualty (BBC1, 8.40pm)

David is excited for Rosa to return home after visiting Xiomara, but he starts to worry that his

comes to dramatising the sport, fiction is rarely more entertaining than the truth. Take England’s Test cricket team between 2009 and 2013 for example. They were the first and only English side to ever reach the top of the world rankings as this documentary reveals. It features hilarious, entertaining and rarely seen, behind-the-scenes footage from that era, alongside candid interviews with star players and coaches, including Andrew Strauss, Kevin Pietersen, Alastair Cook, James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Monty Panesar.

A Suitable Boy (BBC1, 9pm)

Lata continues to pursue a romantic relationship with Kabir Durrani, but the news reaches her mother, who takes action to keep the young lovers apart. Removed to Calcutta, Lata’s spirits are low, until she attends a party hosted by the sophisticated and eccentric Chatterji family. Meanwhile, Saeeda Bai and Maan’s affair continues, becoming a source of gossip that threatens them both. As Maan’s father rounds on him under growing political pressure, Saeeda Bai takes decisive action of her own.

MONDAY

The Deceived (C5, 9pm)

Peaky Blinders’ Emmett J Scanlan and Normal People’s Paul Mescal are among the stars of this new thriller co-written by Derry Girls’ Lisa McGee and husband Tobias Beer. It centres on Ophelia Marsh, who is studying English at Cambridge when, shortly after embarking on a fling with charismatic lecturer Michael Callaghan, he suddenly vanishes. She tracks him to his family home in Knockdara, Ireland, where she discovers that his spouse, the well known author Roisin Mulvery, has perished in a fire. Michael takes her to his home, where she meets rugged local builder Sean. At dinner, Michael admits to Ophelia that he told Roisin about their fling the night she died.

While declaring their love to each other, they are interrupted by Roisin’s volatile and suspicious mother Mary, who is shocked to find a girl in the house wearing Roisin’s clothes.

Once Upon a Time in Iraq (BBC2, 9pm)

When Iraq’s president Saddam Hussein was captured by coalition forces in December 2003, politicians in the White House believed this would be the turning point they needed to bring democracy to Iraq. This edition looks at how Saddam’s removal led to a new chapter of conflict as sectarian differences flared up to plunge Iraq into a civil war. Senior CIA analyst John Nixon was the first person to question Saddam, and the dictator’s answers during the five-week interrogation left the American both surprised and horrified.

Race Against the Virus: The Hunt for a Vaccine (C4, 9pm)

Documentary revealing how Covid-19 spread unstoppably throughout the world, told through the eyes of key scientists on the pandemic frontline. Personal diaries recorded by scientists and intensive care doctors give an insight into the race to identify the virus and try to unlock the secrets of its virulence, revealing how scientists came to realise the seriousness of the disease. Racing to develop a vaccine, leading scientist Professor Sarah Gilbert discusses the pressures she faces.

Supernanny (E4, 9pm)

The world’s pre-eminent child-rearing expert, Jo Frost offers more real-life solutions to parents. The Richardsons have found themselves at a loss managing their six fiercely independent kids and can’t keep up with the mess that follows them. But more importantly, Brittany’s four oldest children from her first husband are struggling with the recent passing of their father which is causing friction between them and their stepfather Ralph. Can Jo help this family cope with the loss of a loved one and the pressures of blended family?

Jurgen Klopp: Germany’s Greatest Export (C4, 10pm)

Thirty years ago, Liverpool were the kings of English football, thanks largely to their Scottish contingent. The manager, Kenny Dalglish, had led the Reds to a record 18th league title, having followed in the footsteps of some of the greatest managers in history: Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan. But then the title wins stopped, and for three decades Liverpool fans watched on as their rivals overtook them. The club looked to a charismatic, witty and immensely likeable German manager, Jurgen Klopp, for salvation. In 2020 he delivered. With the aid of archive footage, this programme charts his success with the people who know him, some of the great players and managers of our time, including Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, Jurgen Klinsmann and John Barnes.

TUESDAY

This Week on the Farm (C5, 8pm)

Helen Skelton and Jules Hudson present the final episode in the show in which farmers document their day-to-day lives. A vet comes to Cannon Hall farm to determine if Jeremy the bull has impregnated any cows. Rob and Dave try their hands at making a traditional Yorkshire tipple and take a trip to Whitby to catch some fish. Plus, The Yorkshire Vet’s Julian Norton demonstrates traditional sheep shearing methods and farmers in Kent race against time to harvest a crop of rapeseed before the weather changes.

How to Lose Weight Well: Summer Special (C4, 8pm)

Cuba: Castro vs The World (BBC2, 9pm)

The Bay Of Pigs in 1961 was a failed attack launched by the CIA to push Fidel Castro out of power. It was also instrumental in the Soviet Union becoming Cuba’s key ally, a relationship which saw the Soviets deploy missiles in Cuba, creating one of the most unstable periods of the Cold War. This new two-part documentary considers the Cuban prime minister’s early years; his commitment to armed revolution, and examines how Castro’s Cuba came to act like a superpower on the world stage. Testimonials from former Soviet and Cuban ministers give a glimpse into how the United States’ success in the Cuban Missile Crisis strained the relationship between the allies. With the aid of archive footage, the strand also explores Che Guevara, Castro’s right-hand man, via the spies and comrades who fought alongside him.

Lose a Stone in 21 Days with Michael Mosley (C4, 9pm)

Given all the fridge-raiding many of us have been doing in recent months, this feels like January programming as we try to burn a few post-lockdown calories. As a nation we’ve consumed far more and exercised much less than usual and, as a result, piled on the pounds. Here, doctor and dietician Michael Mosley devises a lifestyle intervention that will make us feel good while it overhauls our health, as he puts five volunteers on a very low-calorie diet for three weeks in an attempt to help them get their health back on track. In the first episode Michael runs a series of tests to find out just how badly lockdown has affected his

The most recent series may have come to finish last week, but that doesn’t mean Celebrity MasterChef can’t still serve up treats. In this new series, John Torode and Gregg Wallace celebrate 15 years of the competition and look back on some of their favourite moments. In this first edition, John and Gregg relive some of the best and worst food from the early rounds of the competition, and look back at the celebrities’ first taste of the MasterChef kitchen. John and Gregg also revisit two of their favourite challenges, both of which involved taking the celebrities out of their comfort zone. First, it’s back to 2012, when footballer Danny Mills, writer and comedian Emma Kennedy and TV presenter Michael Underwood were sent to a film set to cater for 100 cast and crew of drama New Tricks.

There She Goes (BBC2, 9.30pm)

Rosie is excited as the Yateses depart for their annual summer holiday, but things are not exactly as she was expecting. In 2009, Si and Em Rosie and Ben down to Devon to meet Sophie’s new baby Fliss - both of whom are presented as the embodiment of perfection by Nana. Em contemplates her less-than-perfect child by comparison, and has a realisation about how far her family has come in three years. Drama, starring David Tennant and Jessica Hynes. Last in the series.

Semi-Detached (BBC2, 10pm)

Like millions of us, Lee Mack has been Not Going Out for some time now. This week the writer and star of that show is back on the box as frontman of this new sitcom with a difference. It’s a real-time comedy in which he plays the hapless Stuart. Things haven’t been going well for him and April (Ellie White) since the birth of their child. Faced with a make-orbreak date, our ill-fated hero has to contend with disruptions from his promiscuous, drugtaking dad Willie (Clive Russell), extortionist brother (Neil Fitzmaurice) and a major row erupting next-door. Penned by David Crow and Oliver Maltman, this rib-tickling take on the 24 format (minus the global terror) should be just the job for easing those summertime blues.

Imagine: My Name Is Kwame (BBC1, 10.45pm)

Alan Yentob presents a profile of writer and director Kwame Kwei-Armah, who has spent the last two years serving as artistic director of London’s Young Vic, overseeing successful productions including Death of a Salesman, Twelfth Night, Tree and the controversial

Pulitzer Prize-winning Fairview. As the Young Vic celebrates its 50th anniversary, Alan hears how a young Southall boy called Ian Roberts became the artist Kwame Kwei-Armah. He came to prominence playing paramedic Finlay Newton in the BBC drama Casualty – and his groundbreaking play Elmina’s Kitchen was one of the first by a black British writer staged at the National Theatre and in the West End.

FRIDAY

Unreported World (C4, 7.30pm)

The award-winning world affairs strand celebrates its 20th year on air next month, and there has been no shortage of compelling features during its 38 series. Each episode has attempted to shed light on little known stories. Now, in the first of a new run, reporter Marcel Theroux and director Liam Nolan head for Japan. There they meet some of the country’s Junior Idols, schoolgirl performers whose audiences consist almost entirely of middleaged men. The youngsters hope their seasoned fans can be a springboard towards mainstream success. Theroux attempts to work out whether the performers’ interactions with their veteran male followers are a quirk of Japanese culture or evidence of something more sinister going on in the music industry.

Travel Man’s Greatest Trips: Food and Drink (C4, 8pm)

Aside from breathing new life into The Crystal Maze, Richard Ayoade had one of the best jobs on the box in Travel Man. His 43 minibreaks with assorted stars, including Paul Rudd and Robert Webb, were a feast of top tips in the days when travelling overseas, or even in the UK, seemed as easy as catching a bus. The second of four highlight shows begins with breakfast in Zurich with Frank Skinner. In Paris, Richard and Mel Giedroyc learn how to make a perfect macaron, and in Barcelona, Ayoade and Kathy Burke take a masterclass in cava. Plus, chocolate making in Brussels with Lee Mack; molecular gastronomy with Dawn French in Athens; street food in Hong Kong with Jon Hamm, and a feast of other goodies with other familiar faces.

Jack Whitehall’s Sporting Nation (BBC1, 8.30pm)

In his latest discourse, the comedian takes a celebratory tour through the long-standing and essential rivalries that underpin British (OK, mostly English) sport. Touching on the centuries of history that spice up Home Nations rugby and football, Jack uses the Ashes series’ most brilliant and brutal moments, England’s unforgettable 5-1 victory over Germany and Johnny Wilkinson’s incredible Rugby World Cup performance to show that even though fans claim to hate their old rivals, they are actually an intrinsic part of what makes sport so brilliant.

Everything: The Real Thing Story (BBC4, 9pm)

This film chronicles how the ‘other four lads from Liverpool’ found stardom in the 1970s as Britain’s first million-selling soul and funk band. Against a backdrop of social and political turmoil, The Real Thing were the first all-black British group to hit No.1 in the pop charts with the perennial You To Me Are Everything. Other hits like Can’t Get By Without You and Can You Feel the Force set dance floors alight, but their proudest moment was composing Children of the Ghetto - the first ever song to address the plight of black people in the UK. The band’s success has also been tempered with personal tragedy, but now the founding members tell their story.

Miriam Margolyes: Almost Australian (BBC2, 9pm)

On the final part of her journey, the actress visits Gulf of Carpentaria to see where the wealth of the ‘Lucky Country’ comes from. At the McArthur River Mine, she is taken aback by the enormity and scale of this operation.

Miriam arrives in suburban Brisbane where she meets one of the wealthiest couples in

Australia and visits their wildlife research centre, where they are working to save the koala from extinction. After eight weeks and 10,000kms, Miriam’s final stop is Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, where she accompanies a family taking part in ‘Nippers’, a surf education program for young
