House of Maxwell (BBC2, 9pm)

-

would round off with the most explosive and dramatic season yet. Certainly last week’s opener laid the groundwork for some big revelations and confrontations as the story arc begins its denouement. Now Hannah’s world unravels when Nathan reveals that Kath is pregnant, while the case of the week involves a pregnant woman, her wife, and a sperm donor who may be entitled to parental rights.

Episode two of this comprehensive documentary reaches events that saw the Maxwell name propelled from producing newspapers to being plastered over their front pages. Robert’s body has been found at sea, leaving the family devastated. Daughter Ghislaine prepares to face the world’s press as the family gather in Israel for a state funeral, and the great and good of the media and political worlds congregate – however news emerges that the late Maxwell left some holes in his companies’ finances, including in employee pension funds. Soon the extent of the fraud becomes apparent; the Maxwell name is in tatters, and Ghislaine heads for New York in an attempt to leave the controversy behind her. Of course, we all know how that worked out...

Worlds Collide: The Manchester Bombing (STV, 9pm)

This two-part documentary examines the events surrounding the Manchester Arena bombing on May 22, 2017. The terror attack, perpetrated by a suicide bomber, killed 22 and injured more than 800 others – people who should have been having the time of their lives at an Ariana Grande concert. The target being a location heavily attended by children was particularly shocking. This first part focuses on the hours leading up to the attack, and contrasts the lives of the perpetrators with those of their victims. Concludes on Thursday.

Inside the Force: 24/7 (C5, 9pm)

More from Lincolnshire’s busiest police station, South Park, and it’s the summer of 2021 – when lockdown restrictions were easing and the Euro 2020 football tournament was kicking off. These two factors place a huge strain on police forces up and down the country, and Lincolnshire – the UK’s least-funded force – is certainly no exception. Here we see pubs in Lincoln city centre bursting at the seams on the night of the England v Germany match, and just 20 minutes into the game Sergeant Nicky Duke gets the first urgent call of her 10-hour shift. A fight has broken out and one of the men involved is brought in. Agitated and apparently the worse for wear, he decides to strip naked at the custody desk. But with no witnesses and no CCTV, detectives must forensically unpick the suspect’s account.
