DEVELOPMENT OF THE WEEK

-

TWOMAX was a well-known Scottish knitwear company based within a former textile mill building in the Gorbals area of Glasgow from the 1920s until the company ceased trading in the 1980s (proof of their longevity, Twomax clothes – once sold in Harrods – are still trading on eBay).

What has fashion got to do with property? Well, these iconic but latterly derelict B-listed mill buildings are undergoing a renaissance and spearheading the transformation of the old Gorbals into a very up-market New Gorbals just south of the river Clyde.

Aptly named, Cottonyards by Westpoint Homes, comprises one, two and fourbedroomed loft-style apartments and duplexes available now for off-plan reservations – and a beautifully styled twobedroomed show apartment by Flounce Interiors is now open seven days a week for viewing by appointment.

This is a development of two halves: the first phase of the tall and distinctive red brick One Max at Cottonyards on Commercial Road will have 45 one and two-bedroomed new build apartments, while the original Twomax building on Old Rutherglen Road – opposite a peaceful Rose Garden park - is being converted into 55 stylish one, two and four-bedroomed loft-style apartments to be released within the next few months.

Having had a sneak preview, this landmark development is going to be something special, particularly as the buildings will be complemented by a communal landscaped inner courtyard. Less than a mile from the city centre and with an abundance of green open space in the neighbourhood, New Gorbals has first-rate amenities nearby, including a sports and leisure centre and new health centre, while Glasgow Green, the city’s oldest park, is only a short stroll away.

Prices at Cottonyards range from £179,000 to

£400,000 – a visit is a must to appreciate the high specification and retention of heritage detail, which includes a focus on red brick.
