The Macbeths, Oct 3 and Oct 4, Dundee Rep; then touring
Charlene Boyd’s portrayal of Lady Macbeth last year earned her the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland nomination for Best Female Performance.
She returns here for a revival of The Macbeths – Dominic Hill’s intimate and intense re-imagining of the Scottish play with Boyd performing alongside Lucianne McEvoy in the role of Macbeth. McEvoy recently appeared in Traverse Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of Ulster American at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Hill adapted the work in collaboration with writer Frances Poet. He says the decision to cast two women means this revival “will focus on the same disintegration of a relationship, we will still plunge into a nightmarish, purgatorial world. But there will be an additional focus on how these women operate in a male world, where violence is seen to be the domain of the male sex.”
After opening in Dundee, the production tours to Galashiels MacArts (Oct 5), Paisley Arts Centre (Oct
6), The Byre Theatre, St Andrews (Oct 9 to Oct 11), Macrobert Arts Centre, Stirling (Oct 12), Edinburgh Traverse Theatre (Oct 16 to Oct 20), Eden Court Theatre, Inverness (Oct 23), Pitlochry Festival Theatre (Oct 25) and The Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock (Oct 27).
