A Christmas Carol
Dec 4 to Jan 6, Tramway, Glasgow
Beginning its run on December 4 is a revival of A Christmas Carol, the Citizens Theatre’s five-star, sell-out production first presented by the theatre in 2014.
Running until January 6, the bold adaptation has been refreshed for the performance space at Tramway, where the theatre is staging the majority of its productions while its Gorbals home undergoes a two-year redevelopment.
Taking on the role of the miserly humbug, Scrooge, is Glasgow-born stage veteran Benny Young (pictured below, inset), and the cast also includes Citz favourites Peter Collins, John O’Mahony and Andy Clark.
This run is sponsored by Urban Union, the joint venture company which builds affordable homes, including the Laurieston Living development adjacent to the Citz’s permanent home. The company previously sponsored the Citizens Theatre’s production of Trainspotting in 2017.
“Audiences consistently tell us that they adored A Christmas Carol and would like to see it back in our programme,” said Dominic Hill, the Citz’s artistic director and director of A Christmas Carol ahead of its run.
“I’m delighted to be refreshing this festive favourite which captures the original spirit of the Dickens tale and, with Urban Union’s generous support, offers an inventive and heart-warming alternative family Christmas show that will appeal to all ages.”
