The Greatest Dancer 8pm, BBC One The Voice 8pm, STV
It’s reassuring, in a way: it’s a terrifying new year, but there’s still the same old crap Saturday night TV. Alesha Dixon and Diversity dancer Jordan Banjo host a new series of the Beeb’s sub-Strictly Greatest Dancer talent show, where amateur dancers compete to win a £50,000 and – in a worrying development – a chance to perform on Strictly itself. No one wants to see that. The judge-mentors include talent show regular Cheryl Tweedy, Glee star Matthew Morrison, and Strictly’s fabulous Oti Mabuse. This time out, the audience gets to judge on who should make it through. Meanwhile, ITV is rolling out another series of The Voice, with Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson, will.i.am and Olly Murs back in their big chairs, looking the wrong way. Ah well: it’s only eight months till Strictly’s back now!
