Raised in Karachi, Pakistan, Scottish Life chef Sumayya Usmani grew up in a culture where home-cooked meals shared between friends and family were at the centre of day-to-day life, bringing with it a sense of togetherness.

Through her social enterprise Kaleyard, Sumayya will share her passion for Scots produce and simple home cooking, something that has been at the heart of the classes she has taught for the last 10 years.

Kaleyard’s first release of classes will take place in The Old Barn, Pollock Park and will cover a wide range of international and Scottish cuisine, with a focus on using local, seasonal ingredients.

Each class lasts for 3.5 hours and includes multiple dishes that participants can easily recreate in their own kitchens. The classes are priced at £65 with all profits going to fund community cookery classes for marginalised groups in Glasgow.

Kaleyard kicks off 2019 with a Cook and Dine class on January 17. The class will cover five home-cooked Pakistani dishes which will be taught by Sumayya.

The full programme of classes can be found at www.kaleyard.org.
