Victory puts Taysiders on the up

IN the only RBS Premiershi­p match of the day, won a Tayside thriller against 30-25 to climb the table from ninth to sixth.

Fraser Brown put the visitors on the board with a try in the first minute but Dundee hit back with three touchdowns in 15 minutes, from Richie Hawkins, Andy Dymock and Jamie Urquhart.

TJ Osayawa went over for Heriots but Andy McLean’s try in the final minute of the half took Dundee in 25-17 ahead at the interval, Jack Steel having nailed a conversion and a penalty.

Graham Wilson added his second penalty to a couple of conversion­s 14 minutes into the second half. Richie McIver grabbed Dundee’s fifth try four minutes later. Russell Nimmo’s score on the hour set up a pulsating final quarter with everything to play for but there was no further scoring despite chances for both sides.

At Rubislaw, won the RBS Caledonia Regional Cup final against 33-15, taking them into the RBS National Cup quarter-finals where they will join the four Scottish representa­tives in the British & Irish Cup, Selkirk and the winners of the Edinburgh and West Regional Cups.

Try doubles for Craig Gossman and Graham Fisken at Millbrae helped to a 36-7 win over that set up an RBS West Regional Cup final next week against Glasgow Hawks who beat Hamilton on Friday night in the other semi-final.
