Aluko is No 1 fan of new recruit

ALLAN McGregor is a certainty to be a top-class Barclays P r e mie r League goalkeeper, according to his soon-to-be Hull City team-mate and former Rangers colleague Sone Aluko.

The Scotland No 1 is in t he midst of c o mpleting a £ 1.8 million move to newly promoted Hull from Besiktas in Turkey.

Aluko, who also played for Aberdeen during his time in Scotland, can’t wait to see McGregor in action next season in English football’s top flight and insists he could have made the switch years ago.

He said: “Allan is a very good goalkeeper, probably the best I’ve played with.

“He’s t op- cl ass. He’s a Scot l a nd i nternational and was with Rangers for many years, playing in big European games. He has a lot of experience and is a big character as well.

“I never scored against him when I was at Aberdeen and ended up joining him at Rangers. He’s a good friend and I’d be happy to see him here. If it does happen it will be a great signing for us.

“He definitely has the qualities to be a Premier League goalkeeper. It probably should have happened earlier in his career and would have if he hadn’t been with Rangers.

“If you’re a player from Scotland playing for Rangers and winning leagues, it’s hard to leave that.

“He obviously felt he had to last summer and now it could be the right time for him to be a Premier League goalkeeper.”
