Archibald’s gold rush
KATIE Archibald followed up her individual pursuit title at the British Track Cycling Championships last night by taking gold in the scratch and silver in the keirin in Manchester.
The Olympic team pursuit champion took gold ahead of Aberdeen’s Neah Evans and Elinor Barker in the scratch event.
And Sunday Herald columnist Archibald, a surprise entrant in the keirin, took to the track once again and finished second behind Sophie Capewell as Evans took bronze.
It was a good day for the Scots with 17-year-old Joe Nally pipping Ethan Hayter to take gold by a single point in the men’s points race, while Aileen McGlynn and Louise Haston were victorious in the para-cycling BVI flying 200m.
Meanwhile, Britain’s 14-time Paralympic champion Dame Sarah Storey plans to miss March’s UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships. Storey and team-mate Jody Cundy criticised cycling’s world governing body UCI for awarding the event with just seven weeks’ notice
Storey said: “I don’t have any plans to race internationally this year as I need a huge amount of recharging.”
