Miller strikes to boost Falkirk bid to finish second

-

SUBSTITUTE Lee Miller ended

Falkirk’s frustration and pushed them back up to second with a 1-0 home win over Raith Rovers.

Falkirk had battered on the door most of the afternoon but were becoming increasingly agitated until Miller volleyed in a Lewis Kidd cross with 19 minutes left.

With Dundee United and Morton both losing, it was a profitable day for Peter Houston’s side but he knows Hibs are too far in front to catch.

“Hibs will see it through, so we need to finish as high as we can. Second would be better because it means two less games in the playoffs,” the manager said.

“The important thing at this stage of the season was to get the three points. We played better against Hibs and Morton, yet we took no points from those games.”

Dumbarton damaged Morton’s challenge with a 1-0 home win which lifted them above Raith in the table.

Lewis Vaughan, on loan from Raith, scored the only goal in the second half after a surging run from Andy Stirling.

Lawrence Shankland, who had hit the crossbar in the first half, thought he had headed an equaliser only to see his “goal” chalked off for pushing. Queen of the South kept their slim play-off hopes alive with a 4-2 win over Dundee United at Palmerston.

After Stephen Dobbie had come close with a couple of early efforts, it was no surprise when Derek Lyle put Queens in front after 19 minutes.

Dundee United equalised in 27 minutes when Thomas Mikkelsen squeezed the ball home at the back post.

Dobbie put Queens back in front just before the break but Mikkelsen equalised again for United early in the second half.

Lyndon Dykes put the home side back in front before Dale Hilson put the result beyond doubt.
