Man sheltering in car park is beaten and left for dead
A SAVAGE attack on a man who sought shelter in an underground car park has prompted a police hunt for two tracksuit-wearing thugs.
The victim is in intensive care with lif-threatening injuries, according to investigating officers. He was “savagely beaten” by the two suspects who left him with “significant head and facial injuries”, police said. Officers have been unable to identify the victim who was not thought to be a customer of Cadogan Square Car Park in Glasgow.
Detective Constable Vhairi MacDonald said: “This man was savagely beaten and sustained significant head and facial injuries as a result of the attack.
“He didn’t have any identification on him so we are still trying to find out who he is. We don’t believe he was a customer of the car park, but it could be that he was there for shelter for example, but that has still to be established.”
The alarm was raised by a security guard who found the man near the car park entrance around 9.30pm on Friday.
The area was cordoned off and guarded by police yesterday while officers carried out a forensic investigation of the scene.
CCTV footage of the brutal beating was passed on to officers by staff at City Parking, the company which runs the car park.
“From CCTV, we know that the two suspects approached him and then for whatever reason, attacked him with such force that he is now in intensive care,” MacDonald said. “They then made off on to Argyle Street towards Central Station.
“From our enquiries, there were two other people in the area around the time of the attack, a woman who shouted out and a man who was with her. They left before police attended, but we would ask that they contact officers as their information may assist the investigation.”
The suspects are both described as white men aged between 17 and 25. One was wearing a black jacket with a white panel on the chest, white jogging bottoms and black trainers. The second man had on a khaki jacket with a white emblem on the rear shoulder, a grey hooded top and black jogging bottoms.
The victim is white, aged between 30 and 40, and was wearing a green and blue North Face bubble jacket, with a black jacket and a blue fleece underneath and grey jogging bottoms.
A City Parking spokesman said “CCTV footage was handed over to police. The car park reopened at 2pm on Saturday.”
