Cou­ple in their 80s die in house fire in Sal­ford

A MAN and a woman be­lieved to be in their 80s have died in a house fire.

The blaze, at a prop­erty in Walk­den, Sal­ford, is not be­ing treated as sus­pi­cious.

Emer­gency ser­vices were called to the house in Edge Fold Cres­cent shortly be­fore 3.50am yes­ter­day.

The two vic­tims were pro­nounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for Greater Man­ches­ter Po­lice: “The fire is not cur­rently be­ing treated as sus­pi­cious.

“A joint in­ves­ti­ga­tion be­tween po­lice and Greater Man­ches­ter Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice is un­der way.

“Edge Fold Cres­cent is cur­rently closed to traf­fic as a scene re­mains in place out­side the prop­erty. “In­quiries are on­go­ing.” Four fire en­gines were sent to the scene of the blaze.

Ben Levy, area man­ager for Sal­ford and Traf­ford, said: “It’s a tragic in­ci­dent and first and fore­most our thoughts are with the fam­i­lies and friends of those in­volved.”
