Climate justice protesters stage demonstration
CLIMATE justice protesters across Scotland held demonstrations to highlight the plight of the planet’s environment.
Dozens of activists from the pressure group Extinction Rebellion Scotland gathered in Glasgow’s Buchanan Street yesterday. Members handed out leaflets and free trees for passers-by to plant, before singing climate justicethemed carols.
Demonstrators then infiltrated store windows in the city centre, unfurling signs warning of impending climate disaster in international stores such as Starbucks and Apple.
Co-ordinated protests also took place in Dundee, Inverness and Truro, as well as in cities and towns across the UK and Europe.
The demonstrators hope to pressure authorities to declare a climate emergency after the movement was launched just six weeks ago. One organiser in Glasgow said: “This is just the beginning and we expect to have many more in the New Year.”
