Robert Burns was born January 25 1759 in the village of Alloway, near Ayr and died on July 21, 1796 at the age of 37

Burns’ home village of Alloway is now a suburb of Ayr, where his cottage still stands to this day

Burns Cottage, originally built in 1757 by his William Burness was restored in 2010 and serves as part of the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum

The first Burns Supper was held in July of 1802, when nine of Burn’s close friends got together to mark the fifth anniversar­y of his passing. It was hosted in his cottage in Alloway This Burns Night marks the 216th annual supper
