Gerrard wants to speed up signings as injuries mount

- CHRIS JACK

STEVEN GERRARD wants to ‘ accelerate’ Rangers’ business in the transfer market after losing four players to injury during their win over Dundee United.

The Ibrox boss was without Allan McGregor and Joe Aribo for the Premiership fixture and was denied the services of Leon Balogun when the defender felt his quad during the warm-up. Within the first 20 minutes, Ryan Jack hobbled off with a calf problem, while Brandon Barker suffered a hamstring strain.

The worst injury of the four was suffered by Alfredo Morelos, though, as he had to be stretchered off following a crude challenge by Ryan Edwards that left the striker with a nasty gash on his thigh.

Gerrard has stressed the need for Rangers to add further options to his squad and is hoping the club’s plans will pick up pace as he awaits the full diagnosis on his crocked stars after a 4-0 win.

Gerrard said: “I have been really clear that we need to add so I think we maybe need to try and accelerate that. Going off what I have just seen in the treatment room, there is definitely going to be two, if not three, missing for a couple of weeks.

“We need to add pretty quickly so that our numbers are OK. In terms of the squad strength and how happy and content I am, you best ask me that question on October 6.

“I can’t answer that question [as to how close we are]. We have lists that we are pursuing and trying to be active but in terms of names and how close we are it’s a difficult question for me to answer right now.”
