Cars torched in early morning race hate attack
CARS have been set alight and covered in racist graffiti at a business in Midlothian.
Police are treating the earlymorning attack in Loanhead as a hate crime.
It took place at around 5.10am yesterday.
Police Scotland said it has no reports of any injuries and inquiries are continuing.
Detective Constable John Lumsden said: “Due to racist graffiti on the vehicles, we are currently treating this as a hate crime.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time of the incident to get in touch if they have any information or dashcam footage which may assist with our investigation.”
THE Scottish Tories could deny the SNP a majority at Holyrood, Ruth Davidson has insisted as she hit out at the “increasing stench of sleaze and scandal” she claimed was coming from Nicola Sturgeon’s party.
Ms Davidson insisted that the SNP winning an overall majority’s in May’s Scottish Parliament election was no longer the “‘nailed-on’ nearcertainty” that polls had once predicted.
But to stop Ms Sturgeon’s party winning that majority – and then using it to push for a second Scottish independence referendum – the Tory Holyrood leader urged all Scots opposed to breaking up the UK to back her party in the regional section of the vote, even if they had never voted Conservative before.
Ms Davidson insisted it was only the Tories who could stop the SNP from winning more than half the seats in the Scottish Parliament.
But SNP depute leader Keith Brown said:”Both votes for SNP at this election is the only way to deliver the change that is required.”
THE SNP hopes to reach 2.5 million voters with a new “digital leaflet” campaign launching this weekend.
Ahead of the Scottish Parliament elections in May, SNP members are being asked to share online campaign material with 20 other people.
Coronavirus rules mean traditional doorstep campaigning is only allowed after April 6, while there are also some restrictions on leafleting.
SNP depute leader Keith Brown urged members to share digital leaflets titled “Hands Off
Scotland’s Powers”. He said: “This weekend the SNP is aiming to mobilise its huge base of party members to connect, and have digital conversations with, 2.5 million voters across Scotland.
“With over 10,000 new members in the last few weeks alone, the momentum is firmly behind the SNP but recent polls have shown that the race is tightening.
“Every single vote will count if we are to stop Boris Johnson trampling over Scotland’s democracy.”
