Elyounoussi: Livi win perfect lift for derby

- MATTHEW LINDSAY

MOHAMED Elyounoussi last night admitted that Celtic’s six-goal hammering of Livingston had boosted their confidence ahead of the Scottish Cup last-16 meeting with Rangers at Ibrox.

Norway internationalist Elyounoussi scored twice in the Premiership match at Parkhead yesterday as John Kennedy’s players romped to their most emphatic domestic victory of the season.

The winger insisted that he and his team-mates will be hopeful of recording an away win if the Old Firm match in Govan next weekend goes ahead as scheduled.

“I thought we were good with the ball and without the ball,” he said. “They came out really aggressive, but we kept our composure and it goes down as a good team win for us.

“You could see that from the first goal which came from good combination play. I was happy with my goals too as it is always nice to help the team.

“We will take confidence from this game and take that into the next one. We are all looking forward to it.

“We felt a result like this was coming sooner or later. We also had a really good week of training. We will go into this coming week with the same mentality.”

Elyounoussi is keen for James Forrest, who limped off with a hamstring injury in the second-half, to be involved against Rangers.

“I think he will have a scan in the next few days,” he said. “Hopefully for him and for us it’s not something serious.

“James has worked so hard behind the scenes to get fit again and he’s also a great guy. It was tough to see him go down so soon after half-time. But with a bit of luck he’ll be back soon.”
