Scots dog owners return fundraised reward cash
OWNERS of a dog taken from its home in Glasgow have decided to refund donations for a reward intended for the person who found their missing pup.
Almost £2,500 was raised on GoFundMe after David Waters and Caitlin Maley said Cairo, the American bulldog, was taken in a “brutal raid” by knife-wielding thugs on Wednesday.
Officers launched an appeal to trace three men wearing balaclavas after the incident.
The dog was subsequently found by the side of a Shettleston road.
In a Facebook post, Ms Maley revealed they decided to refund the cash raised for the reward.
The post came after several scathing social media comments from people who believed the fundraiser to be a scam.
Ms Maley wrote: “Social media is amazing at times but also it’s a horrible place, everyone wanted to help find Cairo & now he’s been found it’s now a scam?
“We would never lie about this, the police are investigating and will find out who done this we just hope it’s soon.”
