Ramsey sets sights on trophies after first start
AARON RAMSEY last night admitted he is determined to win trophies during his loan spell with Rangers after making his first start for the Ibrox club in a Scottish Cup win over Annan Athletic.
Wales internationalist Ramsey, who joined the Glasgow giants on loan from Juventus last month, helped Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side record a comfortable 3-0 victory at Galabank and progress to the quarter-finals. The 31-year-old set up Filip Helander for the opening goal with a corner early in the first half and played for 60 minutes before being replaced by youngster Alex Lowry.
The former Arsenal midfielder stressed that he had enjoyed the outing against the fourth- tier minnows and believes the Scottish champions have the quality to lift silverware.
“It felt good to be back out there,” he told Premier Sports. “Obviously the conditions were a bit of a test in the first half, but I thought we did a * good job today. My first start for
Cardiff was Chasetown away so it was pretty similar.
“Those conditions early on were a test. It was very windy, the rain was coming into your face. But we got the job done and we’re in the next round.”
Ramsey added: “I’m here to win trophies. Coming to a massive club like this there’s always pressure to win. I like that and hopefully we can have a successful season together.
“The quality is very high in this team. We changed a lot of players tonight, but there were still some really good performances. So the strength and depth is definitely there.
I’m excited to be a part of this now and hopefully I can contribute to help the team reach its targets this season.”
Ramsey, who had featured as a substitute in the Premiership wins over Hearts and Hibernian at Ibrox, stated that he was pleased to be included in the Rangers starting lineup against Annan.
“It was very important for me because it was my first start in a long time,” he said. “I was always going to be a little bit rusty, but I’m glad I got 60 minutes in the legs again. I’m feeling good.”
