Sir Elton’s US medal

Sir Elton John said he was “flabbergasted” to receive a medal in a surprise ceremony at the White House.

The 75-year-old had performed for President Joe Biden and 2,000 fans as part of his farewell tour when Mr Biden presented him with the National Humanities Medal, honouring his music and Aids foundation work.

A visibly shocked Sir Elton wiped tears from his eyes as he said: “I’m flabbergasted. I will treasure this.”
