Pittman reflects on ‘crazy’ journey

-

IT IS A journey that has taken them from Broxburn to the Premiership, one that neither conceived was possible.

Livingston midfielder Scott Pittman – now the club’s record appearance holder – was a team-mate of Lions manager Davie Martindale at the nonleague side prior to their meteoric rise through the divisions.

After joining in 2015 following a brief spell at Bo’ness United, Pittman was reunited with Martindale – then assistant under Mark Burchill.

As the ink still dries on a new three-and-a-half year deal which will take the unassuming Pittman into his testimonial year at the club, the midfielder spoke candidly about their remarkable Roy-of-theRovers-style odyssey as they prepare to host Celtic today.

Asked whether he thought what Martindale has achieved in the dugout was possible, Pittman replied: “Definitely not. When I was at Broxburn he was starting the coaching but he has been on a crazy journey, too. He has done well for himself.

“I signed from the juniors when we were in the Championship and then it was down to League One. Obviously it has been a crazy ride so far. This is our fifth year in the Premiership.

“I think he just loves football. He watches and analyses a lot of different teams.

“We always come up with different game-plans. He just works hard.

“He is probably still a bit under-rated tactically. You see the success we have on the pitch.

“I have known him for years so he has helped me along the whole way.

“When I was at Broxburn juniors he was a coach but every now and again he would play.

“He was a midfielder and had a good left foot. As you could imagine, he did a lot of shouting on the pitch, but he does more of that now!”
