Morton win again as Spiders rally to victory

- ROUND-UP

MORTON continued their impressive progress in the cinch Championship, extending their unbeaten run to seven matches with a 2-1 defeat of Partick at Cappielow.

Dougie Imrie's team, who had won four and drawn two since they lost 5-1 to Thistle at the start of October, kept in touch with leaders Ayr thanks to goals from Efe Ambrose and Cameron Blues.

Ambrose opened the scoring in the 21st minute, heading home Robbie Crawford's corner and marking his first goal for the club with an acrobatic celebration.

Thistle levelled 13 minutes after the restart when Anton Dowds finished well at the far post.

However, Morton won it with 11 minutes remaining when Blues fired home from Lewis Strapp's cross – and a bad day for the visitors was capped by Tunji Akinola's added-time dismissal.

Ian McCall's side have now lost six matches on the bounce in all competitions, shipping 20 goals along the way.

Dundee, meanwhile, maintained their push for promotion with a 2-0 win over Raith Rovers where Zach Robinson grabbed a brace for the hosts.

Robinson, on loan from AFC Wimbledon, broke the deadlock from the penalty spot four minutes into the second half after Scott Brown was penalised for handball.

He struck again five minutes later, reacting quickest after seeing his initial effort from a corner saved by Raith goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald to claim his eighth goal of the season.

After Sam Stanton headed an early Raith opportunity wide, Robinson's shot hit the inside of one post and the ball rolled across the line and came back off the other.

Robinson had another effort tipped over by MacDonald, who also saved from Paul McMullan as the home side ran out deserved winners.

Elsewhere, Queen's Park came from behind to beat Inverness 2-1 at home to leave the visitors without a win in their last five league outings.

Inverness took the lead in the 18th minute when Billy McKay finished confidently from Sean Welsh's through ball. However, Queen's Park rallied after the interval and saw Lee Kilday's header ruled out for offside three minutes into the second half.

The hosts only had to wait two further minutes to equalise, though, as Charlie Fox headed home from a corner.

Patrick Jarrett then struck the post for the home side before Simon Murray secured the points for the Spiders in the 73rd minute when he converted Grant Savoury's low cross at the far post.

And in yesterday's other second-tier fixture, Blair Yule struck in the last minute to earn Cove Rangers a 1-1 draw and deny Arbroath just a third league victory of the campaign.

Dick Campbell's men were quick out of the blocks and took a fifth-minute lead when Michael McKenna headed home Bobby Linn's cross at the back post.

Both sides came close to finding the net in the 16th minute when they hit the woodwork within a minute as first Gerry McDonagh headed against the bar for the visitors before Scott Allan's sweeping delivery rattled the frame of the goal.

Veteran winger Linn came closest to adding to Arbroath's advantage after the break but saw his effort in the 60th minute blocked by a Cove defender.

Cove almost secured a point with the last kick of the game when Yule drilled home but it was not to be as the two teams settled for a point apiece.
