Glasgow Rocks al­most ended New­cas­tle Ea­gles per­fect start to the cam­paign but the BBL cham­pi­ons un­der­lined their ha­bit­ual for­ti­tude by pulling off a late run to grab an 80-72 win at the Emi­rates Arena, writes Mark Woods.

The pace­set­ters have now won all 14 games this sea­son but they came un­der pres­sure from the hosts be­fore a 9-0 run sent the Ea­gles 47-36 clear at half-time.

But Ster­ling Davis’ men be­gan the third quar­ter with eight straight points, hold­ing their ri­vals score­less for over five min­utes, and drew level as Jonny Bun­yan hit two three-point­ers in quick suc­ces­sion to cat­a­lyst an­other 8-0 burst at the start of the fourth.

How­ever af­ter hold­ing a sin­gle point cush­ion with less then three min­utes left, Rah­mon Fletcher, who scored 19, en­sured the Ea­gles stayed un­beaten by claim­ing the game’s last six points as they in­creased their cush­ion at the top of the stand­ings to eight points.
