Agonising end to Munro round

-

AN intrepid hillwalker finally bagged the last of Scotland’s 282 Munros – only to slip and break his leg at the end of the trek.

The man in his 40s was found screaming in pain by other walkers after he had conquered Sgurr a’ Ghreadaidh and neighbouring Sgurr a’ Mhadaidh on Skye’s Cuillin.

Munros are Scottish mountains over 3,000ft and the walker, from Paisley, was celebrating climbing the last of them.

Gerry Ackroyd, leader of Skye Mountain Rescue Team said: “He was only 10 minutes from the road – it was bad luck. He couldn’t remember what happened but it seems he tripped. He broke his leg just above the ankle. He felt an idiot after bagging his last Munro.”
