Tuna washed up on Western Isle

-

A LARGE tuna has washed up on a beach in the Outer Hebrides.

The nine-foot long animal was found at Traigh Mhor, Tolsta on the Isle of Lewis on Sunday, said coastguards.

Western Isles Council and British Divers Marine Life Rescue have been informed. Stornoway resident Gillies Mackenzie said the tuna was still alive when it beached. The chap who found it said it was still breathing, but it sadly died. We estimate it is 780lbs from its length,” he said.

“You just don’t expect to find a tuna on the beach – it was some sight.”

The discovery comes as increasing numbers of Atlantic bluefin tuna have been spotted around the Outer Hebrides.
