Soldiers killed at checkpoint
The Taliban have attacked an army checkpoint in Afghanistan’s western Farah province, killing at least eight Afghan soldiers.
Abdul Samad Salehi, a provincial council member, said the insurgents abducted another 10 soldiers in Saturday’s attack.
A police spokesman said three insurgents were killed and four others wounded.
The Taliban, who control nearly half the country, carry out daily attacks mainly targeting security forces.
The militants have ramped up attacks on Afghan security forces and government facilities in recent months, leaving troops thinly stretched.
