Scottish version of Monopoly celebrating capital’s landmarks flies off shelves

- GEORGE MAIR

THE new Edinburgh Monopoly game is proving a big hit in the run-up to Christmas.

Makers of the property-buying game say a first run of the board delivered to shops has sold out and a second print run is selling fast.

Shops expect to sell thousands more of the customised Edinburgh version of the game in the final days before Christmas.

The board, which celebrates capital landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile, also features – for the first time in Scotland – customised playing pieces including a miniature Greyfriars Bobby, a king penguin and a rugby ball.

Richard Knights, Winning Moves UK’S Chief Commercial Officer, said: “We are now on a second print run – the first flew off the shelves. At this rate it is easily set to become the best-selling Scottish Monopoly game ever.”

Meanwhile, Monopoly world champion Jason Bunn has revealed the secret to success in the game – buying up the red and orange squares as they offer big returns for a modest outlay and are within likely throws from the Monopoly jail, where many players either languish or visit.
