Whitesnake guitarist’s book strikes a chord with his past

THE former guitarist of Whitesnake and owner of one of the UK’S largest guitar collection­s has said sorting through his instrument­s for a new book was a “poignant” experience.

Bernie Marsden, who co-penned the band’s multi-million selling song Here I Go Again, keeps more than 200 guitars in a private collection.

A new book, Tales Of Tone And Volume, tells the stories behind those instrument­s.

Marsden said profiling his collection had brought back memories of past bands and bandmates.

He said: “With every guitar featured in the book there is a story. How I got it, what I used it for, what gigs people may have seen me at with it.

“And then all the people come back into your mind, and the songs you were doing at the time. You think: ‘So and so played on that track, and [Whitesnake’s] Cozy Powell was on drums and [Deep Purple keyboardis­t] John Lorde came in.’
