Ethical goods sales hit £83bn

-

THE UK’S ethical goods market is now worth more than £83 billion after an increase in sales in the past year, research suggests.

Campaign group Ethical Consumer said there had been a big increase in vegetarian products while an increasing number of people were trying to eat fish rather than meat.

Spending on ethical clothing rose by almost a fifth and on ethical food and drink by 16 per cent, the study indicated.

Rob Harrison, director of Ethical Consumer, said: “There’s a growing awareness of the impact our personal choices has on the environment. It’s no coincidence we’ve seen sharp rises in sales of ethical products.”
