Vin­tage Buckie goes up for sale on ebay

A BOT­TLE of Buck­fast dat­ing back more than 80 years has gone on sale after it was dis­cov­ered dur­ing a house clear­ance.

The minia­ture, which mak­ers have con­firmed pre-dates the Sec­ond World War, was found in

Glas­gow. It was un­cov­ered in a clear-out of fam­ily items, with owner

Jonathan Porter de­cid­ing to have the find tested by J Chan­dler and com­pany.

After con­fir­ma­tion the bot­tle is gen­uine, ex­perts said the drink was bot­tled prior to 1936, mak­ing it at least 83 years old. Mr Porter’s grand­par­ents owned a shop in Glas­gow’s Muirend at this time.

“I was help­ing my dad tidy his at­tic and found a box with lots of random things from the shop. I didn’t want to open it as I thought it was quite old but it wasn’t un­til I con­tacted Buck­fast’s mak­ers I re­alised how old,” he said.

Mr Porter is sell­ing the bot­tle on ebay, where he de­scribes it as a “truly time­less gift for col­lec­tors and lovers of all things Buck­fast”.

„ The bot­tle of Buck­fast dates from be­fore 1936.
