Eigg premiere for The Dark Carnival
A NEW work by Vanishing Point theatre company, The Dark Carnival, will premiere on the Isle of Eigg in May. The Eigg performance comes before a Scotland-wide tour of the show.
The Dark Carnival: Unplugged tells the story of newcomers to the afterlife who discover, “much to their surprise, that death is not actually the end.”
Following the performance on Eigg The Dark Carnival: Unplugged will tour to venues across Scotland, including Theatre Royal, Dumfries (May 16), Paisley Arts Centre, (May 17 as part of Out Of Place Festival), Lyth Arts Centre at Latheron Hall (22nd), Dunoon Burgh Hall (24th), The Barn, Banchory (26th), Byre Theatre, St Andrews (27th), Eden Court (29th, Birnam Arts Centre (30th) and Aberdeen Music Hall (31st).
Matthew Lenton, artistic director, said: “Vanishing Point’s recent work has been large-scale and international, playing at theatres and festivals in Scotland and around the world.
“While that aspect of our work continues, we wanted to make a commitment to communities and audiences across Scotland, and to tour our work here more extensively than ever.
“What better way to do it than with a show that is big in heart, big in spirit, yet able to fit literally anywhere. The tour will include performances in community halls, theatres, bars and even a graveyard.
“Eigg is well known for hosting and developing innovative and creative initiatives.
“It’s a place where ideas can grow, influenced and infused by the local community.” http://www.vanishing-point.org
