IN 1998, Ja­pa­nese di­rec­tor Hideo Nakata sent a chill down au­di­ence’s spines with Ring, a hor­ror thriller about a video­tape, which sup­pos­edly kills the viewer seven days after it is played. A de­cent Hol­ly­wood re­make star­ring Naomi Watts fol­lowed in 2002. Span­ish di­rec­tor F Javier Gutierrez hoped to re­sus­ci­tate the con­cept with this hi-tech re­boot, set 13 years later. Ju­lia (Matilda Anna In­grid Lutz, pic­tured) is con­cerned by her boyfriend Holt’s (Alex Roe) fas­ci­na­tion with the ur­ban myth of a killer video­tape. Click­ing a link on an email, Ju­lia watches the un­set­tling black-and-white footage of Sa­mara crawl­ing out of a well and as soon as the footage fin­ishes, the tele­phone rings and a men­ac­ing fe­male voice whis­pers, “Seven days”…
